New Batting Cage installed for MHS Softball thanks to Community Partners

The Marana High School softball program now has access to a safer and more functional batting cage facility thanks to several local businesses and members of the Marana community.

Community members saw an opportunity to help and constructed a new concrete batting cage pad closer to the field. The newly poured slab also included turf installation, creating a safe, durable surface that can be used not only for batting practice but also for softball drills year-round.

The project was coordinated by Daniel Molina of Molina and Sons Concrete.

"It's a big improvement from the old batting cages, which created a safety hazard because it was located next to a brick wall, which softballs could bounce off of. The new cage improves the practice area by replacing dirt with turf, and it’s closer to the fields,” said Amie Cormell, Associate Principal of Athletics.”The commitment from everyone involved was incredible."

• Molina and Sons Concrete – Led the project and contributed significant labor, expertise, and coordination.
• CalPortland – Donated concrete for the 75-foot by 18-foot batting cage pad and additional footers.
• Preferred Concrete Pumping – Donated the concrete pumping services necessary to place concrete in an area inaccessible to traditional concrete trucks.
• TRS Equipment Rental – Donated equipment used to excavate, trench, and prepare the site.
• Borderland Construction Company – Provided donated equipment, labor, and volunteer crews to assist with forming, pouring, and finishing the slab.
• Public Works Streets Team Volunteers – Assisted throughout the construction process.
