Arizona Teaching Fellows

Marana Unified School District is looking for energetic people interested in becoming a teacher in our District! Whether currently in school or recently graduated, retired, or looking for a new career, if you have a student-centered philosophy and want to inspire, motivate, and make a difference in students' lives, then this is the career for you!   

The Marana Unified School District/Arizona Teaching Fellows is a unique program offered through a partnership between the University of Arizona and the Marana district. Students in the Arizona Teaching Fellows program work closely with the Marana school district throughout their teacher preparation program, completing most of their fieldwork in our District with one or more mentor teachers, who are dedicated to working with children and adolescents in Southern Arizona. 

How do you become an Arizona Teaching Fellow?

Are you a high school graduate interested in teaching Early Childhood (grades PreK to 3rd), Elementary Education (K to 8th), or Special Education (K-12th Mild-Moderate Disabilities)?  

1. The first step is to apply to the University of Arizona via the Undergraduate Admissions application.
2. Once admitted, you will meet with your assigned UA College of Education advisor. Please notify your advisor of your interest in becoming a Fellow so he/she may answer any questions.
3. Then, you will need to apply to the teacher preparation program of your choice in the spring of your sophomore year, by the 2nd Friday in February, for fall admission. For more information about the process and required documents, please visit the U of A College of Education website.
4. Finally, you will need to apply by March 1 to the Teaching Fellows program, selecting your first and second district of your choice. The Teaching Fellows program application will open no later than January 1.
5. Once you are admitted to a teacher preparation program and you apply to the Teaching Fellows Program, the Marana district will review your application and interview selected applicants, based on content area and grade level needs. Following the interviews, the District will select Fellows in early spring.  

Are you a community college student interested in teaching Early Childhood (grades PreK to 3rd), Elementary Education (K to 8th), or Special Education (K-12th Mild-Moderate Disabilities)?   

1. The first step is to meet with a UA College of Education advisor. Once ideal term of admittance is determined, you will apply to the University of Arizona via the Transfer Admissions application.
2. Then, you will need to apply to the teacher preparation program of your choice (typically in the spring of your sophomore year if you are full-time, by the 2nd Friday in February). For more information about the process and required documents, please visit the U of A College of Education website.
3. Finally, you will need to apply by March 1 to the Teaching Fellows program, selecting your first and second district of your choice. The Teaching Fellows program application will open no later than January 1.
4. Once you are admitted to a teacher preparation program and you apply to the Teaching Fellows Program, the Marana district will review your application and interview selected applicants, based on content area and grade level needs. Following the interviews, the District will select Fellows in early spring. 

Are you a college graduate looking to teach Special Education (grades K-12, Mild-Moderate Disabilities)? 

1. The first step is to review the Special Education Master of Arts Mild-Moderate Disabilities website information.
2. Email Dr. Toni Sparks, Program Director, to discuss the program in more detail.
3. After meeting with Dr. Sparks, you should apply to the Special Education Master of Arts Mild-Moderate Disabilities Program through the UA Graduate College website. Preference given to students applying for Fall of each academic year before January 31st; applications will continue to be accepted until filled.
4. Finally, you will need to apply by March 1 to the Teaching Fellows program, selecting your first and second district of your choice. The Teaching Fellows program application will open no later than January 1.
5. Once you are admitted to a teacher preparation program and you apply to the Teaching Fellows Program, the Marana district will review your application and interview selected applicants, based on content area and grade level needs. Following the interviews, the District will select Fellows in early spring. 

Are you a college graduate looking to teach Secondary Education (grades 6-12)?  

1. Review Teach Arizona program information. 
2. Email Teach Arizona and indicate the content area you hope to teach. Please attach scans of your unofficial transcripts for review so that the Graduate Coordinator may evaluate the hours you have earned in your content area and/or make suggestions for additional coursework to support eligibility.
3. Apply to the University of Arizona through the UA Graduate College website, and select the Master of Arts in Secondary Education, Teach Arizona Program. Preference given to students applying by January 31 and applications will continue to be accepted until filled. Cohorts begin in May of each year.
4. Apply by March 1 to the Teaching Fellows program, selecting your first and second district of your choice. The Teaching Fellows program application will open no later than January 1.
5. Once you are admitted to a teacher preparation program and you apply to the Teaching Fellows Program, the Marana district will review your application and interview selected applicants, based on content area and grade level needs. Following the interviews, the District will select Fellows in early spring. 

Are you a college graduate looking to teach Elementary or Early Childhood (grades K-8)? 

1. Contact a College of Education Advisor - Ms. Letty Molina-Gutierrez (last names A-K) or Mr. Shaun Cahill (last names L-Z). Your advisor will assist you with exploring the Post-baccalaureate Elementary Education program.
2. You will then need to apply to the Elementary Education program for the upcoming fall semester. 
3. Apply by March 1 to the Teaching Fellows program, selecting your first and second district of your choice. The Teaching Fellows program application will open no later than January 1.
4. Once you are admitted to a teacher preparation program and you apply to the Teaching Fellows Program, the Marana district will review your application and interview selected applicants, based on content area and grade level needs. Following the interviews, the District will select Fellows in early spring. 

Are you a college graduate looking to teach in Early Childhood (grades PreK to 3rd)? 

1. Contact Academic Advisor, Mr. Shaun Cahill. Your advisor will assist you with exploring the Post-baccalaureate Early Childhood program.
2. Then you will need to apply to the Early Childhood program for the upcoming fall semester. 
3. Apply by March 1 to the Teaching Fellows program, selecting your first and second district of your choice. The Teaching Fellows program application will open no later than January 1.
4. Once you are admitted to a teacher preparation program and you apply to the Teaching Fellows Program, the Marana district will review your application and interview selected applicants, based on content area and grade level needs. Following the interviews, the District will select Fellows in early spring. 

Are you a college graduate interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in Elementary Education? 

The University of Arizona College of Education may consider creating a masters-level graduate program with elementary teacher certification (grades K-8). Please complete this U of A survey in its entirety so they we may collect information from interested people in order to develop the structure of such a program. Someone from the college will contact you if the decide to offer this program!
